John Frederick Lee, Jr. was born in El Dorado, Kansas to John Frederick and Helen Beatrice Condell Lee on April 7, 1919. His father was a bank examiner and farmer while his siblings are Virginia Lee Poynter, Jane Lee Ames, Joan Lee Gooch and Robert Lee. He graduated from Mound City (Missouri) High School in 1937 and Missouri University in 1941. He was in the Army and Air Force in World War II, was stationed in New Caledonia and Guadacanal in the South Pacific and took pilot training in Cuero in 1944. Mr. Lee retired from the military as a Lieutenant Colonel.  As a contractor he built homes in Columbia, MO after the war and took a master's program in public administration at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. Mr. Lee was City Manager of Victoria from September 15, 1959 to March 1980, during significant growth and development in the area, and helped Victoria become the city it is today. He was President of the Texas City Managers in 1973-74 and a street in Victoria's Riverside Park is named in his honor.

Victoria - John Frederick Lee, Jr., age 93, passed away (Jan.15), 2013 at Citizen's Medical Center, Victoria, (Tx).  He was born April 7, 1919 in El Dorado, Kansas to John Frederick and Helen Beatrice Condell Lee. He married Lucille (Lucy) Marie Scherlen on Oct. 31, 1964 and they shared over 48 years together. 

He graduated from Mound City, Missouri High School in 1937 and University of Missouri, Columbia in 1941. Besides his wife Lucy, he is survived by sisters Virginia Testut of Prescott, Arizonia and Joan Gooch of Madison, Wisconsin; daughters Ann  Woodruff of Dallas, Priscilla (Prissy) Lee and husband Alex Makai of Brookfield, Connecticut, Carol Lee and partner Ed Masten of Houston, Cindy Cheney and husband Roger of Tennessee, and Pam Lee of Victoria; grandchildren Marc Woodruff and wife Amy, John Woodruff and wife Ashley, Jill Woodruff, Kate Makai, Paul Makai, Kim Schefield, Jeff Cheney, Tiffany Brown and husband Barret, and Robert Durrant; and great grandchildren Luke, Stephen, Barrett, & Hannah Woodruff, Jordan Schefield, Morgan XXX, and Jeff's 2 children.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Nancy Lee and siblings Jane Ames and Robert Lee.

A Visitation will be held on XXX from XXX at Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1501 N. Glass St. on XXX. Burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors.

Pallbearers will be Robert Durrant, XXX.  Honorary pallbearers will be City of Victoria employees who worked with Mr. Lee.
