Notes for James Alstott DEPOY
James enlisted from Ross Co., OH on the 18th day of November, 1861. He served in the 73rd Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Colonel Orland Smith Commanding. See Certificate of Record dated 3 September 1913. His brothers, Henry and Luther, also served in Ohio regiments, the former as a captain of his company. His brother Stewart, served in Company H, 73rd Ohio in the Civil war. His father served in the Blackhawk War. James was wounded in the battle of 2nd Bull Run, VA by a piece of a shell in his left knee. He did not leave his command.. He was constantly with his regiment during its service throughout its numerous battles. He bore a gallant part in all its engagements and rendered faithful and meritorious service to his Country. He received an Honorable Discharge at Louisville, Ky., on 20 July 1865.
